Snoring and Sleep Apnea Blues
Indeed the trouble with sleeping time is the lack of silence. Snoring haunts me in the middle of the night. Sometimes I have this urge to practically find another bed in another room where I can no longer hear even just an echo of his snore.
He actually knows my problem or it’s his problem actually. This is why we went to a doctor to have him checked for any problems that may manifest through snoring. After assessment, data obtained represent a lot risk factors for snoring – heredity (they have a snoring chorale at home, along with his siblings), being middle aged, male, being out of shape and the frequent history of colds and sinusitis. Well occasionally he drinks and the doctor said that this is also depresses the system including the throat muscles that is why there is some sort of narrowing that contributes to the series of events which produces this not so pleasant sound.
Another factor that I forgot to ask the doctor is the stress factor because the snoring gets extra untolerable to my ears when he is tired. He actually knows it. He admittedly said that he only snores when he is so damn tired and so damn drunk.
Well during the consultation, I participated a lot because I was the only one asked of course about how he is when he sleeps and snores. I answered it of in a detailed manner because I know how he snores, his sleeping position, and the timing of his snoring episodes can help in effectively treating the condition.
As I described the snore, although I know it is something serious, I cannot help but smile when I remembered these funny classifications I saw on the net. It was from a survey done last year commissioned by hotel chain Travelodge.
• The Snorter: rapid blowing of air through the mouth and a noise similar to a horse snorting.
• The Snorchestra: makes long, low snores that gradually build into a deafening crescendo.
• The McEnroe: sounds like a tennis star grunting during a match.
• The Walrus: makes continuous groaning noises when sleeping.
• The Old Banger: sounds like a broken car with a spluttering engine.
Peace to my fiancee! At least I didn’t tell which one you are among the the above choices. =)
