Sleeping Under Pressure

Most of the time, I am so conscious about the kind of sleep that I have. As I said, most of the time, I am somehow asleep but I am half awake. I know relaxation techniques are helpful and I’m trying to do some of the techniques but sometimes, I just can’t. It may be precipitated by the fact that I am a type A person. After a long day’s work and after accomplishing so many things, I still have a lot of things in mind that I still want to do.  I can’t help but think and plan, but yeah I know it’s not good for me. There must be a time for work and there must be a time for rest. We all need it.

I learned that in order to function well and to enhance pleasant moods during the waking hours, we just don’t merely need a sleep. We need to reach the last stages of sleep which is the deep and REM sleep, but what am I supposed to do if I just can’t progress to a deeper stage?

However I guess, the more you think about it, the more conscious you are about the type of sleep that you’re in, the more pressured you become. All these are not helpful for us as it will alleviate our anxiety and further puts us miles away towards reaching further stages of sleep.

Who is pressuring who by the way? If you come to think about it, everything is all up to me…how I see things and how will I respond to things. I guess it is okay to acknowledge that there is a problem and there is something wrong…but dwelling on the problem too much without a sound action is just a waste of time. There are also so many things running through my mind and it just won’t stop at times. This may be preventing me from relaxing. I guess I should learn to stop thinking about things that I cannot do anything about at the moment, otherwise my sleep hygiene and overall health will be affected.
