Aiming for a Good Sleep

I sometimes wonder what prevents me from getting a good sleep. Ofcourse we have known causes of insomnia but the deeper causes vary from person to person. As for my case, I think it all boils down to the type of lifestyle that I live.

Although I’ve made a conscious decision to lie low a bit on my career and give more priority to rest, certain situations trigger some sort of adrenalin rush which starts the engine and sets the mood for another action packed race of life.

I am actually able to fall asleep these days. If we talk about numbers – the ideal sleeping hours, I have no problem with that. I am able to meet it. However, I feel that I don’t reach the deeper stages of sleep, which they say are vital to a good sleep and proper functioning the following day. Consequently, I still feel sleepy the following day and I can’t function well at work.

In my case, I think it’s because I’m over-fatigued, overworked, extremely stressed…whatever you may call it, but why is it that other people I know who are equally stressed easily fall asleep because they are so tired? Indeed, it probably has a different effect on me.

I also think that there is a certain level of stress or fatigue that can induce sleep. There is such as thing as, if you get too much of it, then it will sabotage your sleep. In the same way that during the time when I stopped working for awhile and I don’t have much physical activity or any other sources of stress, I also don’t easily get that drive to fall asleep either.

Striking that balance or moderation in all aspects of life has really been a challenge for me as I am always torn between two classic forces of everyday life - work and rest. Right now, I’m still struggling but I am positive that I will be able to achieve and maintain that balance eventually.
