Sleep Ruined by Anxiety

If there is one extremely unwanted feeling in this world, I would say that would be the fear of the unknown. It’s as if you’re worrying about something which cannot be pinpointed. It would have been much easier if you knew the cause but you just can’t seem to identify it.

This is what ruined my weekend. I was really looking forward to restful days over the weekend. I imagined a long sleep – I wanted to sleep early and wake up late, but it turned out to be the exact opposite. It was a late onset sleep which was frequently disrupted by I don’t know what.

I felt that I’ve done my part. I already set aside all my pending work, left it at the office and planned an out of town trip. I felt however, that it still made no difference. I don’t know what was bothering me…maybe because of the fact that wherever the work is, even if I left it at office, I still see it as a pending work that needs immediate attention. I am still consistently reminded that there are things that have to be done. Problem is, I am the type of person who never runs out of things to do and when I think of something, there is that persistent urge to do it at once. This applies to things that are not necessarily work-related but things that I am passionate about or things that I am excited about. If other people uses low, medium and high prioirity categories, everything for me is high priority needing immediate attention.

It is not really an anxiously bad feeling…it’s anxiety in a hyper kind of way of wanting to do things immediately. It’s as if my mind is conditioned not to rest. Relaxation techniques do not consistently work. There are times when my hyper self is stronger than the laid back self.

At the end of the day, I still didn’t get the kind of rest that I imagined. The next time I plan out an out of town treat for myself, I think I need to do more mind conditioning.
